Tower Falls, Yellowstone National Park
Many believe that fall in Yellowstone is too late to visit. That is not true, in fact you will find that the cooler days, color changes and less crowds make it a wonderful time to see Yellowstone and the surrounding areas. In fact this happens to be a favorite time of year to see and do. One of which is a great day hike!
Located in the northeastern part of Yellowstone near Tower Junction, the fall plunges a stunning 132 feet. The unusual rock columns north of the fall were created by lava flow the cracked as it cooled.
A pleasant 2-mile (3.2-km) hike along a forested hillside that goes between Tower Fall Campground and Roosevelt Lodge.
While you can no longer hike to the bottom of the falls because of severe erosion, you can walk past the Tower Fall overlook for three-quarters of a mile to see Tower Creek flow into the Yellowstone River. Look for bighorn sheep, peregrine falcons, osprey, red-tailed hawks. Bears do visit the area, but black bears are more common than grizzlies
Where to park?
On Grand Loop Road, southeast of Roosevelt Lodge, park at the Tower general store lot and walk the short, tenth of a mile to Tower Fall Overlook.
